Mr Rory Callan is a higher trainee in General and Colorectal Surgery in the East Midlands Deanery. He is currently undertaking a PhD under the supervision of Mr Phil Tozer and Professor Ailsa Hart in the Robin Phillips’ Fistula Research Unit, St Mark’s Hospital.

Mr Callan obtained his primary medical qualification at the University of Cambridge, completing an intercalated BA in pathology, with a dissertation focusing on genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in colorectal cancer. He undertook Foundation Training in the North London Deanery, and Core Surgical Training in the East of England. He completed 4 years of Higher Surgical Training in the East Midland Deanery, prior to starting his research post at St Mark’s in February 2026.
