Nurse Consultant, Stoma and Pouch Care

Samantha Evans is a Nurse Consultant in Stoma and Pouch Care at St Mark’s Hospital, part of London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. She has more than 14 years of experience in the NHS in colorectal and gastrointestinal surgery, including ward-based, specialist nurse and advanced practice roles.
In her current post, she leads the stoma, pouch and intestinal failure nursing service across several hospital sites, providing advanced assessment, complex clinical decision‑making and long‑term management for inpatients, outpatients and community patients. She runs independent nurse‑led clinics covering pre‑operative counselling, postoperative follow‑up, managing complications and contributes to service development and quality improvement.
Her previous role was Enhanced Recovery and Robotic Colorectal Surgical Care Practitioner, supporting over 670 colorectal operations, including more than 500 robotic procedures using the Da Vinci Xi system. She has coordinated robotic theatre workflows, led the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programme, and delivered education and training to multidisciplinary teams.
Samantha has presented at national and international conferences on ileoanal pouch care, colorectal cancer surgery, robotic surgery and enhanced recovery, and has organised specialist educational events for nurses. Her publications include articles on colorectal cancer surgery during the COVID‑19 pandemic, stoma care accessory products, and a co‑authored book chapter on nursing management of ileoanal pouch patients.
She holds a Master of Science in Advanced Clinical Practice (Surgical Care) and has completed leadership, gastrointestinal nursing and colorectal cancer modules, alongside formal training on the Da Vinci robotic systems. She is currently undertaking a non‑medical prescribing course at King’s College London.
