Mr Toby Pring is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at St Mark’s Hospital and Northwick Park Hospital, specialising in complex and advanced colorectal cancer, including locally advanced and recurrent rectal cancer, pelvic exenteration and peritoneal malignancy.
He studied medicine at the University of Bristol and completed his surgical training in London and was awarded CCT in General Surgery in 2023. He undertook advanced post-CCT fellowships in complex cancer surgery at St Mark’s Hospital, including the RCS MiMICC Fellowship, and a dedicated Peritoneal Malignancy Fellowship (RCSI accredited) at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin. Following completion of his fellowship he was appointed as a consultant in colorectal and peritoneal surgery at University College Dublin and the Mater Hospital.
Mr Pring holds a PhD from Imperial College London, where his research focused on the interaction between body composition, systemic inflammation, immunity, and outcomes in colorectal cancer. His doctoral work included translational immunology, advanced imaging analysis, and the development of a randomised controlled trial in patients undergoing complex rectal cancer surgery.
He remains actively involved in research at St Mark’s Academic Institute and Imperial College London and has published extensively in leading surgical, oncology, and nutrition journals.His clinical practice is centred on multidisciplinary care for patients with complex colorectal cancer, with particular interests in pelvic exenteration, prehabilitation, perineal reconstruction, and the optimisation of outcomes in high-risk surgical patients. He is committed to evidence-based surgery and to integrating research findings into routine clinical care.
Mr Pring has a strong commitment to teaching, training, and leadership. He has held multiple educational and governance roles, is an experienced undergraduate and postgraduate training.
